Back to School Mindfulness Routines

Mindfulness is the practice of being aware and intentional with yourself and others. Mindfulness practices can transform your personal life and your classroom community! Ohm & Teaching and I teamed up to share our top tips for establishing mindfulness routines.

1. Body Scans
Body scans allow you to tune into how your body is feeling. A body scan can balance your nervous systems, lower blood pressure, and promote a sense of gratitude. During a body scan you'll become aware of sensations in your body and just notice--without judgement. You can do body scans in the morning when you first wake up, at night right before bed, or throughout the day to check in with your body. Here's how to do it:

Teach Self-Love in the Classroom with These 3 Meaningful Activities

As teachers we all know how important it is to teach kindness toward others, but  it's equally important to teach how to be kind to yourself. Today I'm sharing three simple ways to teach self-love in the classroom because sharing kindness with the world begins on the inside.

Empower Your Students with Yoga in the Classroom

This post was written as a guest post for Teachers Love Amazon. Visit their blog here.

Hi! I'm Becca from The Teacher's Passport and I'm a 2nd grade teacher and yoga teacher in Asheville, North Carolina.  I am very passionate about spreading the message that yoga is for everybody. Today I'm excited to share one of my favorite topics---yoga in the classroom. When I first became a classroom teacher, I relied heavily on my yoga practice to manage stress, anxiety, and overall health and wellness. As we all know we have one of the toughest jobs in the world and when we put our whole heart into this profession, we need to make sure we're filling our heart back up with self-care. The practice of self-care is something that is far too often put on the back burner in our fast-paced society. Yoga has completely transformed my life and I love sharing the gift of yoga with kids.

Travel Virtually Anywhere with Virtual Reality in your Classroom

I'm so excited to share an engaging way to bring the world into your classroom with virtual reality! With VR goggles your students can explore the world through a unique experience that makes them feel as though they're actually there. From the International Space Station to the Galapagos Islands to ancient Mayan ruins, the destinations for virtual field trips are practically endless. When students explore with VR goggles they get a 360 degree view of the destination, creating a one-of-a-kind travel experience without even leaving the four walls of your classroom.

Sound Waves Remix

Hey friends,

My second graders have had so much fun sharing what they've learned about the science of sound through this fun Bruno Mars remix!

If you want to bring this to your classroom, here's what you need...

Teach Your Students about Education Inequality with this Free Classroom Curriculum

Hi teacher friends,

March is one of my favorite months because it's Women's History Month and includes International Women's Day on March 8 to celebrate girls and women. In addition to focusing on incredible women who have moved mountains across the world, it's important to teach children about the gender inequality that still exists. One way I do this with my 2nd graders is by teaching them statistics about girls' education inequality.

All-Natural Essentials to Help Combat a Classroom Cold

It's that time of year, right? Kids are coughing and sneezing left and right and you feel like there's no way to escape the nasty germs. You've worked hard all year to boost your immune system and fight it off but inevitably the classroom cold has finally caught up to you. We all know that prepping for a sub is more work than just taking a sick day, so how can you kick your cold quickly with natural remedies? Here are some all-natural essentials that I keep in my pantry throughout the school year!

Warm honey and lemon juice
This is one of my favorite quick and natural remedies for a sore throat! Just mix some honey (I recommend local honey if possible) and lemon juice and heat up for about one minute in the microwave. Sip on it and you'll immediately notice a soothing relief! This is great first-thing in the morning and right before bed. You can also try boiled ginger and honey for some awesome benefits.
